The area
Harstad sits on Hinnøya in Troms, between Lofoten and Tromsø. Close to mountains, sea and northern lights — and to the airport, the coastal ferry and shops.
Experience Harstad
Harstad sits on Hinnøya, Norway's largest island, and offers nature, good local food and sights to see. In summer you get the midnight sun, in winter the northern lights.
The town is a good base for exploring Vesterålen, Lofoten and Senja. Evenes airport is half an hour's drive away, and you can reach Lofoten by car via the Lofast road.
Eating out
Harstad has plenty of restaurants, cafés, pubs and bars. Three of our favourites: Ming Restaurant, Big Horn Steakhouse and Egon Restaurant.
The northern lights
Harstad lies right in the northern lights belt, and the season runs from October to March. The aurora is unpredictable, so your chances are best if you stay a few days.
